About the Counsellor

Dr. Gayatri Iyer has extensive counseling experience in the field of genetics. From April 2021 to June 2022, she worked as a Genetic Counselor at LifeCell International Pvt Ltd, where she counseled over 100 cases involving pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, and assisted reproductive clinics. She conducted a weekly genetic clinic at Utage Child Neuro Hospital, Latur, and performed analysis and interpretation of various genetic tests such as karyotyping, PCR, RFLP, Sanger sequencing, and more. Dr. Iyer also coordinated with clinical geneticists, laboratory scientists, genome analysts, and referring clinicians to ensure timely and accurate genetic diagnoses. Additionally, she assisted specialists in selecting genetic tests and panels for their patients, and actively participated in seminars, round table meetings, and webinars. She also played a role in training sales, marketing teams, and genetic counseling interns in the basics of genetics, inheritance patterns, and company services. Prior to her role at LifeCell International, Dr. Iyer served as a Senior Genetic Counselor at Kamineni Hospitals from July 2017 to March 2021, and as a Genetic Counselor from November 2015 to June 2017. During her tenure, she counseled over 2000 cases in various medical fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics & gynecology, oncology, neurology, and orthopedics. She conducted pretest counseling, documented patient clinical history and phenotypic details, and facilitated appropriate genetic analysis. Dr. Iyer also performed posttest counseling, providing education on molecular diagnosis, management/surveillance, and extended family screening. She visited specialized schools for children with autism and intellectual disabilities to provide genetic counseling to families with likely genetic syndromes. Furthermore, she actively volunteered as a counselor in health camps at hospitals, community clinics, and medical camps. In July to October 2015, Dr. Iyer worked as a Genetic Counselor at Datar Genetics Limited, Nasik, where she counseled patients undergoing DNA+ (Personal Genome Analysis) and other genetic tests at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. She conducted over 150 pretest counseling sessions and 40 posttest counseling sessions during this period. She is level-II certified Genetic Counsellor. Overall, Dr. Gayatri Iyer has acquired significant experience and expertise in genetic counseling through her work across multiple medical settings, diverse cases, and various genetic tests.
